In the late 1970's Johnny Carson had a fascinating guest on his show named Frank Abignale Jr. who was promoting a book about his fraudulent adventures called 'Catch Me if You Can".  That book inspired a bored 15 year old to make a fake Sports Illustrated press pass to get into sporting events and interview athletes.  A total dork but I did my best to play the part, get past the guards and conduct dozens of brief and awkward interviews with celebrities I had no business being with (Thomas Hearns, Reggie Jackson, 19 year old Wayne Gretzky, Jack Nicklaus, etc). In the photo above I'm at the Silverdome inside the Lakers locker room trying not to pull the cord from my cassette recorder while interviewing Kareem.
